Request a CTL Focus Group Facilitator

A focus group is a feedback mechanism designed to gather in-depth insights from a small group of participants, making it ideal for expounding on specific themes rather than conducting a general review of a broad scope. By focusing on a particular topic, participants can engage in detailed discussions, offering nuanced feedback and exploring complex ideas that might be overlooked in larger-scale surveys or reviews. This method encourages deeper conversations, making it especially effective for uncovering underlying motivations, attitudes, and perceptions.

Focus groups are not the only mechanism for gathering feedback. It is recommended that a digital survey be completed by participants first, allowing the focus group organizer and their leadership to review the quantitative data, identify trends, and determine if a focus group is appropriate, and if it is the right mechanism for gathering qualitative data. Focus groups must have a specific and defined purpose.

The Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL) has facilitators who can conduct focus groups with students, alumni, Program Advisory Committees (PACs), industry partners, preceptors, and more. Our facilitators will conduct the conduct the focus groups and will deliver a comprehensive report summarizing the findings to the Dean and Associate Dean of the relevant program.
