About: Cybersecurity at the College of New Caledonia (CNC)

Summary:

This article outlines Cybersecurity Services offered and used at the College to keep your account, and the institution as a whole safer from Cybersecurity threats!

What is Cybersecurity?:

Have you ever received a weird phone call, or an email from someone you don't know asking for personal information? These are both examples of unsafe online activities that can have negative impacts on the people they're targeting. Cybersecurity is the practice of keeping people safe from these online threats through a mix of education, technical systems, and awareness. Cybersecurity systems are constantly keeping people safe, and you might not even notice them! When an email goes to spam or junk, or your computer scans a fishy piece of software, that's Cybersecurity at work.

Why is Cybersecurity important?:

Remember that weird phone call I mentioned earlier? If someone was to call and ask for your personal information, a password, or something sensitive that only you should know, it can be really convincing. Unfortunately, cybercriminals are often looking for this information to harm you in some way. This could be financial harm through stealing bank information, reputational harm by accessing your account and posting something negative, and a bunch of other unwanted impacts to your information. Additionally, if someone was to access your school or work account, they could also access sensitive information related to other people. Cybersecurity systems and awareness are essential in keeping you safer online from these threats.

What does Cybersecurity look like at CNC?

At CNC, we're dedicated to keeping the information of our staff and students safe. We do this through several technical systems including Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), email protection to keep "phishing" or malicious emails away, and account protection systems that detect suspicious or unusual activity. Additionally, we require cybersecurity training for all staff college-wide. This means that the people working behind the scenes in our systems ensure your success in a way that is both safe and secure!

Curious about other ways we protect your information? Please see the list below:

Vulnerability Management to ensure critical systems are kept updated

Advanced Computer Detection Systems that monitor suspicious activity, and let us know when we need to step in

Dedicated Cybersecurity Staff that keep an eye on things and work to ensure the organization is compliant with industry standards

and a bunch of other behind the scenes stuff to keep you and your information safe!

What Cybersecurity services are available to me?
