What is OneDrive?
Microsoft OneDrive is a file hosting service and synchronization service operated by Microsoft as part of its web version of Office. OneDrive is the cloud storage solution that CNC provided to all staff to safely store their files in the cloud. Each staff member at CNC will have 1000GB of space to store your files.
OneDrive allows for secure storage and easy sharing of files.
How to Access OneDrive
One Drive can be accessed by going to https://cnccloud-my.sharepoint.com/ and logging in with your CNC credentials, or through File Explorer (see here).
From there, you will be able to see the files which belong to you, are being shared with you, and that are being shared by you.
You will also be able to create new folders in your OneDrive and upload files into them. You will use this menu when you upload files to be backed up into your OneDrive.
Why should you Backup your Data?
It is strongly encouraged that you to keep a backup on OneDrive of the data that is stored locally (meaning the only copy is kept on your physical computer.)
This ensures that if there is any hardware failure (ie. your computer is no longer functioning or is damaged and cannot be repaired) you will have a backup of your data that you can access anywhere with your CNC credentials.
How do I know if my data is being stored locally?
Windows has many different discs when you open the file explorer.
Local Disk (C:) is the system disk where windows is stored, this is the actual hard drive inside your computer. All of the files on this drive are only located on your computer and no where else. These are the files that we will be backing up.
My Network Drive (U:) is the network drive that is assigned to each user. This is a drive separate from your computer's hard drive and is backed up to the network. You will not need to backup this drive as it is backed up automatically and it will show up again on any CNC computers connected to our network.
These drives may change depending on your location and you may not see either of them, these are also network drives like the U: Drive. You will not need to backup these drives as it is backed up automatically and they will show up again on any CNC computers connected to our network.
How to backup your data and folders to OneDrive
Now that you can access OneDrive, you will need to make a backup of any files that are stored locally on your computer. You will also be exporting the data in your bookmarks bar so that you can import your bookmarks back into your new computer's browser.
