Title: How To: Connect to Shared Drives

Audience: Staff / Faculty

Applies to: Shared Drives (L, M, N, R, S, U)

Category: Network and Connectivity Management

Prerequisites: You must be connected to a CNC employee network either through a cabled connection on campus, or by connecting to the CNC AD Wifi.

Problem: When I log in to my computer my network / shared drives don't appear, or I don't have access to them.

Description / Summary: Guide on connecting shared drives if they do not populate correctly

We're aware of a problem that stops your network drives from connecting when you first login after being away from campus or having just started your computer.

If you wait at the login screen until you see the network connected icon showing as connected:

As opposed to not connected:

If you're currently logged into the computer and are hard wired or connected to the CNC AD Wireless you can just log out of windows and then back in and your drives should re-appear. If you do a full reboot, you'll have to wait at the login screen for the network icon to change.

It may be necessary to map the network drives if they still don't appear or you are using a new computer. To do this, please open the file explorer.

On the right hand side, right click on "This PC" and select "Map network drive..."

Please select the letter that matches with the drive you are trying to map, and put in the corresponding drive address found in the table below:

Drive Letter Drive Address
R (College Wide) \\ad.cnc.bc.ca\CNC
J (Fort St. James) \\ad.cnc.bc.ca\FortStJames
L (Lakes District) \\ad.cnc.bc.ca\Lakes
M (Mackenzie) \\ad.cnc.bc.ca\Mackenzie
Q (Quesnel) \\ad.cnc.bc.ca\Quesnel
S (Prince George) \\ad.cnc.bc.ca\PrinceGeorge

Hit finish, then the drive will be mapped.

Your U drive has an address personal to you. If you need to map this, please reach out to ITS. The U drive will be retired in time, so we strongly encourage you to make the transition to your OneDrive as soon as possible.
